OUR STORY
How We Arrived Here
A Sarasota garage-door company, shaped by thirteen years of showing up.
2013 — A Family Trade Becomes a Business
Southern Garage Doors began in 2013, when Ronald Knepp and his son Matthew started answering calls in Sarasota with tools, a truck, and a standard: do the work right, charge what's fair, leave the door sounder than we found it.
That standard became our first value — Integrity. Not as a slogan, but as the simple rule that a price published once gets quoted the same way to every neighbor. A spring replaced on Tuesday is the same repair you'd want on your own home. Integrity is the number on your invoice matching the number we said on the phone.
What this means for you: no upsells, no pressure, no "best for last" pricing games. The price you see on the site is the price we quote, and the price we honor.
2019 — A Transition Without a Rebrand
By 2019, Matthew was ready. Ronald stepped back from the President's seat, confident the work he'd built would be carried on without being changed. No new logo, no new promises — just a next generation taking the standard forward.
That season taught us our second value — Respect. For the customer whose schedule we enter. For the technician whose skill we rely on. For the family member who raised the standard before handing it off. Respect is arriving in the window we promised, explaining findings before we touch the door, and never treating a repair call as a sales opportunity.
What this means for you: we assume you're smart enough to decide what your home needs when given honest facts. We explain, you choose — no steering, no pressure.
The Quiet Years — Learning Through the Work
There were years when the work was steady but unglamorous. A broken spring before dawn. A stuck opener in August heat. A long drive to a quiet neighborhood where one family just needed a door that closed.
Those years shaped our third value — Diligence. The 17-point inspection we do on every call was refined on service trucks, not in a training manual. The decision to custom-cut every spring instead of stocking one-size-fits-all was made after seeing what "close enough" costs over time. The insistence on residential doors only — no commercial, no big-box subcontracting — came from knowing where our best work gets done.
What this means for you: the craft behind your repair is not a checklist performed. It's a habit practiced, corrected, practiced again for more than a decade.
How We Work Today — Stewarding What Was Built
Today the company runs calmly. Our AI receptionist, Jenny, answers the phone on the first ring. Our technicians work residential doors only — no commercial, no big-box contracts, no subcontractors. We keep the inventory stocked so most visits finish in one trip. We publish every price on the website so nothing is negotiated at the door.
This is our fourth value — Stewardship. The business is not ours to milk; it's ours to keep sound, one invoice at a time, so it's here the next time you need us.
What this means for you: when you call in five years, you'll reach the same company, with the same standard, answering in the same voice.

What This Means When You Call
Four values, made real by thirteen years of repetition:
Integrity — the price you see is the price you pay.
Respect — we explain findings before we fix anything.
Diligence — every visit ends with a 17-point safety inspection.
Stewardship — we run the business so it's still here next time.
That's how a garage-door repair becomes a kept promise. That's all this page really says.
